<div class="article-body"><p>When preparing your system to install the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen game, make sure you have the following Windows files and network configurations set up.&nbsp; Missing files or out of date operating systems can cause stability issues with both the game and the RSI Launcher.</p>

<h2>Windows files</h2>
<p>If you bought a new computer, or reformatted your drive with Windows, you should verify you have the following files and settings configured before installing the&nbsp;<a href="/hc/en-us/articles/115013373508" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RSI Launcher and Star Citizen</a>.</p>
<ul class="ul-level-0">
<li>For Windows version N or KN, make sure you have the latest&nbsp;<a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4516397/media-feature-pack-for-windows-10-n-november-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Media Pack for Windows</a>. If you have Windows home or pro in the US, you do not need this pack.</li>
<li>Microsoft .NET Framework&nbsp;<a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">3.5</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42642" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">4.5.2</a></li>
<li>Make sure all of your <a href="https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036571593" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Windows updates</a> have fully installed.</li>

<h2>Network configurations</h2>
<p>Check your firewall and router for the following settings. These are helpful/required to fully install and run the Launcher and games. If you have errors including <a href="/hc/en-us/articles/360000060587" target="_blank" rel="noopener">10002</a>, <a href="/hc/en-us/articles/360000084687" target="_blank" rel="noopener">30007</a>, or <a href="/hc/en-us/articles/360000065428" target="_blank" rel="noopener">15006</a>, your Internet Service Provider could be blocking ports, throttling, or other configurations on their side.</p>
<ul>
<li>Proxy services are turned off, disabled, or properly configured.</li>
<li><strong>Whitelist .exes:&nbsp;</strong>Ensure out files are whitelisted in your firewall:&nbsp;RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe.&nbsp;<br />If whitelisting in Windows Firewall does not work, you may want to remove or disable the firewall and try launching the game.&nbsp;

<li><strong>Check Ports:&nbsp;</strong>Ensure&nbsp;TCP 8000 - 8020 UDP 64090 - 64110 ports are permitted out/opened in your firewall/router.&nbsp;

<li><strong><a class="external-link" href="https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001201.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">This article</a></strong>&nbsp;can help for adding ports to a router.&nbsp;</li>
<li>You may need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to also have them update and check your ports for your account. Some players were able to get this solved with their help.</li>
</ul>

<li><strong>Using a VPN:&nbsp;</strong>Some users may need to create and play from a VPN.&nbsp;If VPN works, but not opening ports locally, you need to contact your ISP to have ports opened.

<h2>Anti-virus configurations</h2>
<p><strong>Ensure our files are whitelisted:</strong> RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe.&nbsp;</p>
<p>If you use <strong>Avira Antivirus</strong>, disable the <strong>System Speedup</strong> utility through the program's options.&nbsp; If this option is enabled, it can cause Star Citizen to crash even if the proper files have been whitelisted.</p>
<p>For some anti-virus applications including <strong>Avast</strong>, <strong>Kaspersky</strong>, and <strong>Panda</strong>, you will need to whitelist all Star Citizen directories:</p>
<ul>
<li>(install drive)\Roberts Space Industries and all files and subfolders</li>
<li>This folder also includes StarCitizen and RSI Launcher</li>
<li>If you add PTU, you will also have a StarCitizenPTU and RSI PTU Launcher</li>
</ul>
<p>Some players have had to change or investigate additional exclusion and white-listing for these applications:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.avast.com/en-us/download-documentation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Avast</a>, <a href="https://support.kaspersky.com/11444" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kaspersky</a>, Panda, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.malwarebytes.com/support/guides/mb/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Malwarebytes</a>.</p>
<p>If you have issues with installs or updates, your anti-virus may be blocking access beyond whitelisting. You can check the logs&nbsp; and reports for blocked applications, sites, ports, and more. You can configure the anti-virus further to help allow access for Star Citizen and the Launcher.</p>
