<p>During your explorations of the stars, you will eventually acquire a lot of stuff and you will need someplace to store it.&nbsp; The Personal Inventory system is how you do that, and as with other games that feature a wealth of equipment and other items, learning how to manage your inventory is important.&nbsp; We will go over the very basics here to our new Citizens started!</p>

<h2 id="h_01FM0KP1R1YCZNTX20E08X7TVD">Your Primary Residence</h2>
<p><strong>When entering the 'verse for the first time, you will be asked to select a Primary Residence</strong> after creating your character.&nbsp; This is an important decision to make as it will determine where you start off initially as well as where all of your starting items, equipment, ships and vehicles, and initial respawn point will be located.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Where should you begin?&nbsp; If you do not have much to your name, then choose whichever sounds exciting to you based on the in-game descriptions provided.&nbsp; Should you already have some equipment or ships, then you likely already have some familiarity with the 'verse and might consider <a href="https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008085873" target="_blank" rel="noopener">what location</a> will best suit your needs.</p>
<p>For example, if you have some land vehicles among your fleet, you should choose to start in <strong>New Babbage</strong> as the hangar at that location can accommodate such vessels.</p>

<p class="wysiwyg-text-align-left">After you've decided, you will see the above warning box to confirm your Primary Residence.&nbsp; Once you are in-game you will need to manually relocate any items, ships, or other goods yourself if you wish to setup elsewhere.&nbsp; Your spawn location can be changed by visiting any <a href="https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/4409996816535" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clinic or Hospital bed</a> in any landing zone.</p>

<h2 id="h_01FM0KPAF0C4WQSWK2AADQ8MNG">Accessing Your Inventory</h2>
<p>To access your inventory, simply <strong>press I.</strong> &nbsp;</p>
<p>It can also be accessed via the <strong>Personal Inner Thoughts (PIT)</strong> action ring, which will by default have the Personal Inventory option available.&nbsp; To do that,<strong> hold the F Key then click the Right Mouse Button</strong>. If you are currently in a landing zone or other port, you will have access to both what you are carrying (Personal Inventory) as well as Local Inventory.</p>

<h3 id="h_01FM0KPJ4KREDRC43GJ4KCQKX5">Personal Inventory</h3>

<p>Your Personal Inventory will appear on the left, with the above information at the top of the window.&nbsp; You will also see your character in the center and the Local Inventory (see below) on the right side.&nbsp; By clicking and dragging with the mouse, you can move items between local and personal or even equip them to specific load out slots on your character.</p>
<p>This will also display where on your person you will be storing items.&nbsp; Note the capacity information and the bar with the 20% in the image above?&nbsp; That is your carrying capacity limit and items that exceed it cannot be moved onto your person.</p>

<h3 id="h_01FM0KPRDNGXH4TCYPKJPZXFS1">Local Inventory</h3>

<p>This functions similar to Personal Inventory, but the window will show the current zone you are in instead of where on your person you are storing your items. It also has a maximum capacity, but it is significantly larger to be able to hold things like secondary armor sets, big guns, and other things that simply cannot fit into your pockets.&nbsp; <strong>These storage locations are not shared between planets</strong> so keep that in mind when placing things in it!</p>
<p>This option to access a specific location's storage is only available in major cities and any related station in orbit above the planet, but it is available from anywhere while in that location.&nbsp; You do not need to seek out a specific building, shop, or NPC to access it!</p>
<p>As you accumulate more things, you will find it helpful to sort your belongings and locate specific items quickly, which can be done with the filter options provided under the Local inventory status bar.</p>

<p>Clicking these will select general types and categories of items or the custom option can allow you to fine tune the list.</p>
<p><strong>Your local inventory is also where your spare ship components are stored.</strong>&nbsp; If you are not at the proper location where the components you want to switch into your ship are, you will not be able to access them. You will need to bring the ship in question into port where the components are stored in order to update your load out.</p>

<h3 id="h_01FM0KPZ3RB1C0VQBFF1QZZA9S">Ship and Vehicle Inventory</h3>

<p>While on a ship or in a land vehicle, you will also have access to storage on that specific vessel.&nbsp; This storage is not shared with any other players aboard and so you do not need to worry about other people on the ship taking your stuff.&nbsp; Other players also cannot see what is stored in your ship inventory even if they are also making use of the ship's cargo space.</p>
<p>As seen in the image above, the inventory status bar once again shows the name of the specific location where the items will be stored as well as the capacity left for more items, equipment, and cargo.&nbsp; There are also filter options available, much like the Local Inventory.</p>

<h2 id="h_01FM0KQ5BHBDPMXVKPN13EWWXB">Your Inventory and Death</h2>
<p>A very important point for later...when you get into dangerous situations out in the 'verse, unless it happened in a safe zone, should you become incapacitated and die or your ship explodes, you risk losing your items!&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Personal Inventory - </strong><br />Upon death, everything in your personal inventory will remain on your corpse.&nbsp; You will need to return to the location of your demise and retrieve your items, assuming they are still there upon arrival.</li>
<li><strong>Local Inventory - <br /></strong>Anything you have placed in storage at a major city landing zone is safe, regardless of what happens to you or your ships.&nbsp; We recommend visiting often to move items, goods, and equipment you don't wish to lose to local storage.</li>
<li><strong>Ship Inventory -</strong><br />Should the ship or vehicle be destroyed, much like when a player dies, anything a player has stored in a ship or vehicle's cargo will be scattered among the wreckage and free for the taking.</li>
</ul>
<p>If you can't be revived in time, you will need to find your way back to the place of your demise and recover your items if they are still there. It is important for this reason to ensure you are only carrying what you need and leave everything else in storage to retrieve later.</p>
<p><strong>RSI Support staff will not assist with recovering items lost due to death.</strong></p>

<p>Should you need to check what items you have stored where, due to either forgetting or having your belongings scattered across Stanton, the NikNax app in your mobiGlas will allow you to review what is in your storage at any time.&nbsp; To get to that app, <strong>open your mobiGlas</strong> (default is F1), then <strong>click the NikNax icon</strong> from the list, which is the third from the left.</p>

<p><strong>A quick note:</strong> If you have items stored in a ship or vehicle's inventory, if that ship or vehicle is <em>also</em> in storage, anything you have stored inside that vessel will not show up on the NikNax app.</p></div>
